The Schiit Gungnir offers the world's most advanced Adapticlock clock regeneration system in a fully upgradable, hardware-balanced DAC with 32-bit D/A converters, advanced fully discrete analog output stage, with hardware summing for single-ended output. Like Bifrost, it also offers one of the most advanced asynchronous USB 2.0 input sections available. The USB, SPDIF BNC and RCA coax inputs, and Toslink optical input all offer 24/192 capability.

Adapticlocks Unique Clock Analysis and Regeneration

The best ways to kill jitter is with high-precision, voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO)  what happens when you have a source that won't allow the VCXOs to lock? like a satellite receiver or some computers? In most circumstances it just won't work. The VCXOs unlock, and jitter flows right through the system.In Gungnir, if the VCXOs won't lock, it shifts the entire reclocking network to VCOs. This allows it to lock on to virtually any input, and still provide a low-jitter regenerated master clock. The result is higher-quality clock, despite the source this is what we have called an Adapticlock

Schiit Gungnir uses two AKM4399 32-bit D/A converters for real hardware balancing.After the DAC, Schiit's Gungnir uses fully discrete, JFET-input output stages for current gain and filtering. Following that, discrete, JFET-based summing stages convert the balanced signal to single-ended outputs, so that Gungnir can offer both balanced and single-ended output.

Like the Bifrost, Schiit Gungnir does not use asynchronous sample rate conversion to simplify clock management. All data is passed through, to the D/A converter, preserving all the original music samples--whether it's 16/44.1 or 24/192. Gungnir now includes Schiit's all-new Unison USB, their own USB input based on a general-purpose PIC32 microprocessor, using precision local clocks and complete electromagnetic and electrostatic isolation. No more off-the-shelf USB for them—this unique, UAC2-compliant input provides the highest performance and lowest power draw of any USB input they have offered to date.
